These two little ones were rescued from a north Texas shelter after being found out on their own a few days apart. The little girl on the left was picked up by animal control suffering from extensive hair loss, her skin raw and inflamed, and in terrible shape. She has the sweetest, most loving personality though and despite her discomfort she still wants to give kisses! We're waiting on test results to confirm her diagnosis and will post updates as we know more. We named her Cornbread!
Noah, on the right, was found alongside a very busy highway and taken to the shelter, so weak he could barely stand. He's severely dehydrated and emaciated; banged up & has scratches all over his little body. The vet first suspected a head injury, but that has been ruled out. The fear now is that it could be distemper so more tests are being run. He's in critical condition and is being treated as aggressively as possible. Please send these little ones good thoughts and if you're able, please donate to help us pay for their care. All donations are tax deductible and 100% goes to the care of the dogs we rescue. Thank you!

February 21, 2012 - Cornbread was under the weather for a few days, but is back on her feet and doing just fine now. She lost a little weight while she was sick, but is quickly gaining it back. She's very happy in her foster home now, enjoying being around the other dogs and getting lots of attention from her foster parents. Now that she's feeling good again she's started getting her medicated baths and treatments again. We're not sure what all is mixed in, but she's looking like a chi/doxie/greyhound at this point! She has some long legs! |

February 12, 2012 - Noah was adopted by a wonderful family! In just over a month he went from a very sick, emaciated dog to an energetic, playful bundle of pure love. Thanks to everyone for your prayers, donations and support for this precious little guy. Good luck little Noah! We wish you a very long and healthy life!! |

February 2, 2012 - Cornbread is adjusting very well to her foster home and feeling more confident everyday. She's much more comfortable with the other dogs now and even tried to play with a stuffed animal yesterday! She's giving lots of kisses and her coat is coming in nicely. We should have new pictures to post soon!
January 26, 2012 - Noah has completely recovered and is now having a great time at his foster home! He's happy, healthy and loves running & playing with his foster brother & sister (Emma, who was recently adopted from DLT!). As it turns out he also loves playing with his two human brothers too!

January 24, 2012 - Cornbread is continuing to improve and she's now being cared for in one of our foster homes who's experienced in treating skin conditions like hers. She's still very timid and nervous, but she's safe and secure now, and will have as much time as she needs to heal, inside and out. |
Cornbread's skin is healing nicely AND she's growing some brindle colored hair!

January 19, 2012 - Noah is doing fantastic! He's our little miracle dog for sure! In two short weeks he went from an emaciated little dog who could barely stand to a bundle of non-stop energy! He's so active in fact, it's been a real challenge getting a good picture of him! He's recovered nicely and is gaining some much needed weight too - he's up to 8.8 lbs so far! Today he was neutered and from the moment he woke up he was bouncing around wanting attention. The vet estimates his age at 9 months and he's finally getting to be a happy, healthy puppy! We'll be posting him for adoption on the website and beginning the process of finding the perfect home for this special little guy soon. He's going to be very selective about his forever home so that he's never lost and on his own again!
Cornbread continues to improve and her skin is looking much better. All of the scabbing has cleared up and enough new hair is coming in that we think she's a brindle color. She's still timid, but enjoys gentle stroking of her skin and comes to her kennel door anytime Kelly, her main caretaker at the vet's office is nearby. She's a good girl and so gentle & quiet when you hold her. The medicated baths are helping and she feels so much better after each one. We're looking forward to the day when she's healthy and ready for her forever home!
January 14, 2012 - All good news for Noah! He's feeling better everyday and is the happiest little guy! We're still working on getting some much needed weight on him, but he's slowly filling out & looking more adorable each day. He has a few weeks to go before he's strong enough to be neutered, but we expect him to be ready for adoption in February.
Cornbread is getting medicated baths and feeling much better. She gives little kisses and is getting more comfortable around people now. She's sprouting some new hair and looks like she may be a brindle color. We'll post new pics soon!
January 10, 2012 - Noah is continuing to improve and our vet is very pleased with his progress. He's much more aware and his motor skills are improving every day. He walks to his kennel door now and whines to be picked up & loved on - and as you can imagine, he's impossible to resist! He's also gained about 1/2 pound! If all goes as planned he'll have a nice warm bath tomorrow. Slow and steady progress for this adorable little guy.
Cornbread's doing good too, and although she's still a little timid she's relaxing a little more each day. Her treatments are going well & she'll start her medicated baths tomorrow. We'll post new pictures soon!
January 9, 2012 - Noah is so much better today! He seems to have really turned the corner, going from a dog who was barely surviving to a boy who is hungry, wagging, wiggling, and even giving doggie kisses! Although Noah still has a long way to go before he is completely recovered, he's headed in the right direction. Thanks to all for their prayers and positive thoughts, and special thanks for the great care and extra TLC that Noah has received from the veterinary staff! Meanwhile, Cornbread is also doing well. Her skin is still sensitive & painful, but she is now allowing and enjoying some gentle touches from her caregivers!

Noah - January 9th, 2012 |
January 7, 2012 - Cornbread's skin condition is Demodex, which is not contagious & quite treatable. It takes a long time to clear it up & grow back a nice coat, but that's not a problem, we are not in a hurry. Also, because her condition is not a danger to any dogs she lives with she will be able to stay in foster care while she recovers. As much as Cornbread is enjoying getting all the personal attention, she will probably enjoy being able to get comfy at her foster home even more!
Noah is doing better. He had some setbacks at first, but he is on his feet now. Thanks to special food and a lot of TLC his body is doing better at getting some nutrition on board. Noah is no longer in danger of dehydration, and he is gaining strength. The exact cause of his neurological problem is still unknown, but the important thing is that he is improving. More good news is that Noah shows no signs of digestive parasites and does not seem to have received any major injuries from a motor vehicle accident as first suspected. Noah will need more time and care while we all watch and wait. Paws crossed for further recovery!
