Cornbread was rescued from a north Texas shelter after being picked up as a stray. She was suffering from extensive hair loss, her skin raw and inflamed, and in terrible shape. She has the sweetest, most loving personality though and despite her discomfort she still wants to give kisses! We're waiting on test results to confirm her diagnosis and will post updates as we know more. We named her Cornbread!

March 12, 2012 - Cornbread is doing fine and making good progress in her recovery. As you can see she's getting lots of TLC at her foster home and finally enjoying life again! Thanks to foster parents Cindy & Mike for taking such great care of our little Cornbread! |

February 21, 2012 - Cornbread was under the weather for a few days, but is back on her feet and doing just fine now. She lost a little weight while she was sick, but is quickly gaining it back. She's very happy in her foster home now, enjoying being around the other dogs and getting lots of attention from her foster parents. Now that she's feeling good again she's started getting her medicated baths and treatments again. We're not sure what all is mixed in, but she's looking like a chi/doxie/greyhound at this point! She has some long legs! |

January 24, 2012 - Cornbread is continuing to improve and she's now being cared for in one of our foster homes by a veteran rescuer who's experienced in treating skin conditions like hers. She's still very timid and nervous, but she's safe and secure now, and will have as much time as she needs to heal, inside and out. |
Cornbread's skin is healing nicely AND she's growing some brindle colored hair!

January 19, 2012 - Cornbread continues to improve and her skin is looking much better. All of the scabbing has cleared up and enough new hair is coming in that we think she's a brindle color. She's still timid, but enjoys gentle stroking of her skin and comes to her kennel door anytime Kelly, her main caretaker at the vet's office is nearby. She's a good girl and so gentle & quiet when you hold her. The medicated baths are helping and she feels so much better after each one. We're looking forward to the day when she's healthy and ready for her forever home!
January 14, 2012 - Cornbread is getting medicated baths and feeling much better. She gives little kisses and is getting more comfortable around people now. She's sprouting some new hair and looks like she may be a brindle color. We'll post new pics soon!
January 10, 2012 - Although she's still a little timid, Cornbread's relaxing a little more each day. Her treatments are going well & she'll start her medicated baths tomorrow.
January 9, 2012 - Cornbread is doing well. Her skin is still sensitive & painful, but she is now allowing and enjoying some gentle touches from her caregivers!
|
January 7, 2012 - Cornbread's skin condition is Demodex, which is not contagious & quite treatable. It takes a long time to clear it up & grow back a nice coat, but that's not a problem, we are not in a hurry. Also, because her condition is not a danger to any dogs she lives with she will be able to stay in foster care while she recovers. As much as Cornbread is enjoying getting all the personal attention, she will probably enjoy being able to get comfy at her foster home even more! |
