Homer had a sad past, and nobody knows the trouble he has seen, but he is on to new beginnings and happy endings. Homer was found in a dumpster in Tyler by a good Samaritan. It was summer and hot, and no place for a sweet Dachshund. This kind soul took Homer to her vet to see if he might be adoptable at the local shelter. Homer tested a high positive for heartworms and could not be taken at the local shelter. The vet felt so sorry for Homer and feel in love instantly, and she just knew she had to help him. He looked at her with his sad eyes and wagged his tail constantly. She contacted some friends in Dallas for possible rescue options, and Homer found his way into his current foster home. Homer is a laid back love bug and just wants to hang out where ever his people are. Homer would be content to hang out beside you on the couch while you watch TV. When you get up for a snack, he is sure to follow! Now that it is getting colder outside, Homer would love to snuggle under the covers with you, or provide a personal heating device for your feet for those cold winter nights. His current foster mom works from home, so he keeps her company in her office all day. He is best buds with his fur sister, Savannah (a boxer). Homer loves walks outside and does great on a leash. He also likes to play with his people, and his fur sister. He has tried playing with toys a little here and there. He may have suffered a not so kind hand in the past, and Homer has to be shown new things are OK. Homer is good with other dogs and would love a small to mid sized dog to become buddies with and to play with. There are no cats in his foster home, so we are not sure of how he would do with a kitty. Homer has a great personality and would adjust well to most any situation. Homer will need a home where children have been taught how to respect dogs and how to treat dogs. He currently lives in his foster home with a rambunctious toddler (not yet 2 years old) and he has done very well, but would be happier with an older child he could buddy around with. He promises to give you lots of attention and follow you everywhere if you commit to love him and provide him the home he truly deserves. Homer is about 2 years of age and is a full-grown, standard dachshund weighing in at about 22 lbs. Homer has undergone heartworm treatment and ready to go to his "furever" home. If you are interested in Homer, please fill out our application. Verifiable vet history is required. Anyone interested in our dogs at Frisco Humane Society will be required to fill out an adoption application which includes a home visit by one of our volunteers. For this reason we do not adopt to anyone living out of the DFW area. All our dogs will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and heartworm treated (if required). We do ask for a $165 adoption fee. Click here to return Frisco Humane Society website and to complete an online application
