Rio came to us with some serious mouth issues- he had to lose most of his teeth and his lowet jaw had been broken a long time earlier and healed in the wrong position. X-rays revealed that there was no way to correct the jaw, but fortunately for Rio he is in no pain and his jaw is fully functional. He has lower canines that point forward like cute little tusks and was able to retain enough molars for chewing on one side, but for the most part his mouth is toothless so his little tongue hangs out on the side sometimes. It sounds odd, but on Rio it looks cute.
Rio is one of the happiest dogs we've ever met! He is always prancing, wagging, and just being nice. He even wagged the entire time he was at the veterinary dentist, including when he woke up from the dental procedure- no pain, just happy to be awake and around people! You can see from the picture that Rio's dental issues haven't kept him from eating. Rio has the mouth of an old man but the health and energy of a young adult dog in his prime. He's heartworm negative, current on all vaccinations, and a bit chunky but otherwise in great shape. In other words, Rio is a perfect pet if you like a unique smile and a lot of love!
